My name is Keanna McMillan, I am 4 years old and I
live in a small village called Bridge Of Weir around 30
minutes from Glasgow with my mummy (Roslyn)
daddy (Thomas) and my big brother Kayden!
I have a condition called Cerebral Palsy, the type I have is called spastic diplegia, which causes the muscles
in my legs to be very tight. My family are helping my dream come true by trying to raise enough money to
take me to America for a life changing operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (sdr). The reason for
having it done in America is because it is not readily available in the UK. The operation is carried out at the
St Louis Childrens Hospital in Missouri by a doctor named Dr TS Park who has performed this surgery for
29 years on over 2,100 children with a 100% success rate, for those reasons he is the best doctor in the world
to do it.
By having the sdr operation and working very hard with intense physiotherapy afterwards, my life will
change completely as it will give me the best possible chance of walking independently and without a lot of
pain and discomfort as after the operation my legs will no longer be very tight and I will have flat feet for
the first time so this will help with my balance.
I have recently started walking short distances using my kaye walker but I get sore and tired very easily. I
am very determined and do try my best but my leg muscles just don’t allow me to do many things my
brother and friends can do.
If you would like to know more about the operation – sdr, my condition or any of our fundraising events or
progress, please have a look at my other pages.
The amount of money I need for the operation is £40,000 this includes a month long stay in America and the
essential aftercare. This is a huge amount but I hope with everyones help my dream will come true. If you
can donate or help in any way I will be one step closer. Thank you to everyone involved, I will be forever
grateful.
